Fulham Opera - Autumn 2020 Newsletter - Mergers, Recitals

Big news this autumn: Fulham Opera and Regents Opera have merged!

After 25 years in the business of travelling country house opera, Regents Opera has merged with Fulham Opera, adding to our 10 year history of producing large operas in an intimate space, our orchestral repertoire weekends and the Verdi Prize.

This means that in summer next year, the Fulham Opera team will be taking La Traviata on tour around the country, including a performance in London at the end of June.

This surely makes the combined Fulham/Regents Opera into the biggest fringe opera company in the UK.

Chamber Recitals

The last musical utterance of Fulham Opera was a highly successful concert of Schubert’s Winterreise in January 2020. As we slowly become able, once again, to put on musical events, we are going to offer the ‘cello and piano recital we had planned to do in May: On Saturday 21st November at 6pm Alison Holford and Ben Woodward will perform Beethoven’s G minor sonata, Op.5 No.2, Martinu’s Variations on a Slovak theme and Brahms E minor sonata. The recital will take place at St John’s Church in Fulham (map).

We are allowed a total of 35 people in the audience, so although the recital is free (with a retiring collection that we would encourage you to give heartily to), we are ticketing the event for £1 via our website.

Ägyptische Helena update

Our rearranged dates for this wonderful Strauss masterpiece are now on our website and planned for February, closing the production on valentine’s day:

Why not enjoy a zweite Brautnacht in Fulham this Valentine’s Day”

We are going to wait until things become clearer about larger numbers allowed in the church before putting tickets on sale. Hopefully this side of Christmas.

Orchestral Workshops update

Sadly, our planned Hansel & Gretel workshop on 6th December has been postponed 12 months.

A brief corporate thanks….

to Big Yellow storage in Camberley for storing all of our lighting, props and costumes.

Stay Healthy, and let’s look forward to getting back to full performances again soon!
